Montse Tomé breaks her silence: "I'm disappointed. Rafa Louzán has broken his promise to me."

Coach Montse Tomé gave her first interview this Tuesday after it was announced that she will not be reappointed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) as head coach of the national women's team. The Asturian spoke openly on Cadena SER's El Larguero , where she stated that she feels "disappointed" with president Rafa Louzán .
"He's always conveyed a lot of affection, a lot of closeness, a lot of trust to me. It's true that perhaps I'm a little disappointed with how everything has been handled because I expected a shorter process. I think we've also failed to keep our promise to him about continuity , which I did feel was that he was happy with my work," she said.
"But everything that happened after the final, well, these are things that were hard for me to process, which I completely understand. If you bring new people into an organization like the federation and they look for a different direction, that's understandable. But the truth is that I wasn't so clear about that message, and I was told something else , which, in the end, was completely different. But anyway, I repeat, the president knew me before I became president and he's always been close," he added.
"I'm disappointed with how everything happened," Tomé added before recalling her dismissal. " The truth is, no one from the Federation has told me anything. They send a message to my agents, and it's on Monday, I think around 2:00 PM or so, if I'm not mistaken," she said.
"Up until then, I've been able to speak with the president after the final. In that sense, I haven't received the clear message from the Federation that I felt or expected. And well, that's football. I've been in this for a relatively short time, and they've always told me: 'You'll be a better coach when you're kicked out of somewhere.' These things happen in football, and you have to keep evolving. I've had seven wonderful years; these last two have given me tremendous growth. I've enjoyed it a lot, and that's what I'm taking away," said the Oviedo-born coach.
He then spoke about Reyes Bellver. "It's true that since she came in, I haven't had much or done much work with the national team because I've done the work with my technical team and my entire staff. During the training camp, when she was there, she conveyed to me that everything was positive, that what we were doing was very positive . Both she and the management team, when they were in Switzerland, everything we were doing was positive," he repeated.
"He even spoke to me about the organizational chart, where the coaches who are going to be there now would be in other national teams. Even possible future scenarios, where in October we were going to play a match at the Nations where we have achieved that qualification, we were thinking about where those matches could be. But I don't want to focus too much on this either; what the message is, is that I think this situation could have been anticipated in a really understandable way ," he argued.
"This is the elite, this is the highest level, and when different people come in, they can look for other solutions," she alluded to the Director of Women's Football at the RFEF. "I believe I've been a hard worker who has given everything to the national team, to the team. I feel valued, very respected by all the players, and there's simply been a lack of clarity and a failure to keep one's word. But this is football. I believe we will move forward, we will continue, and I am happy, at peace," Tomé asserted.
"My team has valued me greatly, the staff has valued me greatly. It's true that I came into the game at a difficult time, and we've turned a practically broken team into a team with which we've been able to enjoy the Euros. I'm very grateful to the people who have trusted me. It's true that there are things we didn't choose, I've learned a lot from everything, I've had to deal with situations I never even imagined, and I've felt loved, I've felt valued," she emphasized.
"In that sense, I've been happy, I've enjoyed myself, I've been able to work with the best players in the world, and that's what I'm taking away. I'm someone who doesn't need much external recognition. I know what I'm doing, I know how things are done, the work that goes into it, and that's something we value, and I'm happy. I'm very grateful for these seven years, for the people who were here, for those who are here, because they've made me improve, and for the players," she stated.
No farewells on social media from the players"Team players have called me, they've written me messages, they've sent me messages... Many players have written me messages. I've always felt respected by all of them, I've felt very loved. I don't value whether they post it on social media or not," Tomé said about her farewell.
"I've received so many messages from coaches in the men's professional league, from people in the Federation who have worked closely with me. I feel very loved, very brave. And I don't even care whether they've posted it on social media or not. In fact, some are still on vacation. They've written to me, they've called me, and this is real. I've had an absolutely professional, very professional relationship with them," she emphasized.
"Always at this European Championship and during this time with them, we've treated all the players professionally. You've seen the starting lineups, and we've been a working team that treated the number 1 and the number 23 the same . We've given importance to those who were playing and those who weren't, and it's been seen. We've recovered a team that lacked energy last year at the Olympic Games," recalled the bronze medalist who lost in Paris.
"I highly doubt that. I'm not aware of any of that. When I spoke to the president, he told me that the players were happy , and based on what I know and the people I've spoken to, and the messages I've received and the calls I've received from them, I wouldn't say that's the case," Tomé denied the accusations against the players.
"I've shown that I'm a different person, and I think the work we've done speaks for itself. We reached a European Championship final, we beat Germany, we achieved many things that hadn't been achieved before, and with professionalism in a complex context . I don't know if that carries over or not. I'd like to think not, because I think we've shown that it hasn't been just me; I've always had very good company, our work and our dedication," Tomé emphasized.
"I've never had any problems with them, not even during my time as assistant coach. That's why I've been able to lead with confidence, with the joy of managing a team like this, and not thinking about those difficult moments in Oliva, that call-up that ultimately gives us the chance to play in the Olympics for the first time . I hope that wasn't what tipped the balance two years later," she confided.
"I understand that in football, sometimes things happen that you don't expect. I don't think this is a question for me. My job is done, our job, because it's been a technical team that has helped me a lot , a staff that has been attentive to the players 24 hours a day," he concluded.
